Minmi The dinosaurs and fossil wood are both land-derived. The dinosaur Minmi is one of the oldest known ankylosaurs. This specimen died and dehydrated on land from where it was washed out to sea and then buried among marine fossils. It is Australia's most nearly complete dinosaur at 80% complete. It replaces as "best" the two-thirds complete original of Muttaburrasaurus which, however, has been restored for display in Brisbane and Hughenden. Minmi has been displayed in Richmond as it appeared when washed and fitted together. Further preparation from the reverse side is being carried out at Queensland Museum. Recently we have uncovered large fragments of a dinosaur from the Richmond Shire. These fragments are currently undergoing scientific study in Brisbane. These sections of fossil have been described as belonging to a young brachiosaur, the ultra high-browsing sauropod with a giraffe-like build. Upon their return to Richmond this section of fossil will be mounted along side its mural, so that the real bones can be compared to their painted equivalents. Visitors to Kronosaurus Korner can then judge the original size of this sub-adult specimen. |
